Last week I made a quick, but positive decision ; to go and see Aaron and Joaquin in Madrid. Before 48 hours had passed I had rented an apartment in the building next to were they live.

Now that I have been out of any kind of academic structure for three months, I have started to reflect on questions that have appeared before, but were cast aside to make space for the prescribed set of tasks I had ahead of me in the college year. It takes space and distance from other demands to re-examine the way global systems operate , reflect on their current state, and ask “is this optimal?” , “would we design something like this from scratch”? . In international trade , the answer is a resounding NO.
